Evaluation of Summer photography

This photo was taken at a close family wedding. I thought I could use it as a possible front cover or contents as it is a diverse representation and plays into David Gauntlett's "Diversity in representations" theory. I also got two comments on flickr stating that the photo captures "beautiful aspects of the culture." I took this photo to create the representation of a heartwarming female and perhaps to make he audiences empathy for her as she looks upset hence why she has her eyes closed. 

I didn't get any comments on this photo but I really like the way the henna stands out on the models hand/wrist. This also plays into David Gauntlett's diversity in representations theory. I took this photo to crate the representation of a asian lady to capitalise on the asian market and have more diversity in representations. She has her eyes closed to show the camera that she is feeling down and upset but also to show off her beautiful eye make up.

 I took this photo because I was going for a Love Island type photo and was going to use the caption "Meet the new contestant on Love Island!" This plays on the fact that Love Island is an extremely trending topic for the ages of the TA (16-25.) This could also link to Jenkins' theory on fandom. In terms of the technicality of the photograph, I really like the depth of field and how the way the model is walking matches the way they walk on Love Island. I also like the way the colour of the swimsuit is bright which matches the weather when this photo was taken, as you can see in the photo.

This photo is similar to the previous one, in the way that I took the photo with the same idea in mind as the one before. However, I do like the fact that the model is doing the exact same pose they do on Love Island when they take photos. I also think the depth of field in this photo is very good.

This photo could possibly go on my website as it has a brick wall in the background which could be an alternative representation considering the fact that the other photos are with female models and bright backgrounds. This could fit the TA as I had an idea to launch a new Peaky Blinders esque show as this plays on the social trend of Peaky Blinders right now. The low angle shot creates a representation of the boys being powerful and dangerous and the brick wall creates the representation that they are from a rough background.

This photo was taken with the thought that it would create the representation that the two models who are standing face to face are at odds with each other and the model leaning against the wall is torn as to what side he should be on.

Planning: Summer Photography update

I am glad to write that I have been able to make a lot of progress when it comes to bringing people together for my summer photography work.
I am going to a family wedding in the coming days, which allows me to get some shots of my sister in her Indian sari which would be a magnificent opportunity to bring in some ethnic diversity.
 I have also managed to gather my friends for a photo shoot as I had an idea to launch a new peaky blinders esque show
 I also managed to get some spontaneous photographs of my friend in her bikini whilst we were sunbathing. I will use these as the front cover with the caption "meet the new contestant on Love Island!"

Getting lots of different people together in one place over the summer has been difficult. I have been trying to get people together from the start of the summer holidays to now and I have been unable to. However, I will keep persevering and hopefully manage to get some photographs.

Research: Empire website

The Empire website also appears to adhere to a lot of conventions. For example, a voyeuristic picture of a female to attract the readers attention. Followed up by a question to engage the readers in debate. It also adheres to a number of magazine website conventions, for example the hyper links at the top of the page and a call to action with "subscribe."

This part of the website also adheres to a number of website conventions. For example, as Empire is a film magazine, it has reviews of the latest films in a star form along with a "what to watch" segment

Another convention the Empire website adheres to is having their social media links at the bottom of the page. This increases reader interaction because if someone really likes Empire magazine, they can follow their social media accounts.

Research: Empire contents page

The contents page is similar to the front cover in that it relies heavily on Game of Thrones fandom along with some other fandom based things i.e Hellboy etc. The contents page also links to Jenkins' fan theory due to the amount of Game of Thrones things it has on there. However, it does adhere to many more conventions than the front cover.  For example, it is in columns, a long time convention of entertainment magazines 

Research: Empire front cover

This front cover breaks conventions of magazine front cover as there is no bar code, price or anything of the sort. It relies entirely upon the fandom of Game of Thrones and the fact that it has built up an audience who trusts them. This would not be a first edition because the audience would not know what type or even what the magazine is. However, due to the fact that Empire has an audience who trusts them and knows the pragmatics of Empire. Also, the fact that Empire understands that Game of Thrones has a very loyal and devoted fan base plays into the theory by Jenkins about fandom. I would not be able to do something like this as its a first issue and the audience would not have the pragmatic understanding of what the magazine is.
